Motown Week

So word on the street (okay, straight from Ryan's mouth) is that next week is Motown Week for our Idols. What should they sing? I have a few suggestions.

There are so many Motown songs. In order to narrow it down I looked at 100 Greatest Motown Hits. I also used my imagination. This list is full of the Temptations. I can't help that they were the best.

Scott: He needs to get more interesting (for something other than being legally blind, which he didn't even ask to be known for in the first place). I think that will be very hard for him but it's certainly worth a try. He also needs a fun song to play on the piano because he's not ready to step out from behind it and I don't want him to. Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing by Marvin Gaye. It's a duo song but whatever. It wouldn't hurt if he tried to play two people. I found this Beyonce/Justin Timberlake version. What could be better?

Kris: He's so adorable! He just needs to keep that train going. Kris has showed a fun side and a serious side. AI viewers can't take the ballads too long. This week Kris needs to pull out something more up-tempo and he should bring that guitar back. I suggest Since I Lost My Baby by the Temptations for him. It's an energetic song, but it will also bring out his cute, sensitive side. I think it would suit him well and keep him in this competition another week. He should sing the Temptations version because it's faster than Luther Vandross' version and the general public will be less familiar with it so in a way it will seem new and different to them. The downside is that Simon might say it's a simple song but I still think it would do him well.

Danny: Well, he should choose something that matches his glasses. Since I don't know his glasses, I'll just choose randomly. I think he should sing something a little racy. Danny likes those feel good, preachy songs. It gets tiresome week after week. I am not a Gokey fan but something I feel like I could be pulled in that direction because he has a good voice, he just annoys me. So this week, Danny should switch it up with something we wouldn't expect and do a good job with it. I was thinking something sexy at first but I don't like that idea now. He's not sexy. He'll never be sexy. Did you see him in the Marshmallow Man jacket? It didn't fill itself out. Let's go with... Papa Was a Rolling Stone by the Temptations.

Adam: He scares me. I don't understand him. This week, I want to be happy with him instead of frightened. I think he should tone down the screaming without sacrificing the theatrics. Smiling Faces Sometimes by Undisputed Truth and covered by the Temptations is theatrical and dramatic all on it's own. He won't need to do much to it, which is a good time. Show us you can just sing a song! But at the same time, it's heartfelt, it's passionate. He can also tweak it some. I love that song so if Adam sang this, I just might love him.

Megan:
Quirky (?), weirdo Megan. I don't understand her either. I hope she'll be recovered this week cause I can't take anymore of her coughing. Simple, simple Megan. Simple is good for her. I don't think she should switch it up. She should keep it the same. Let's go with Baby Love by the Supremes. Perfect for her awkward shimmy hip dance.

Allison: She needs something big! A belter. Okay, yeah, let's go with Tina Turner River Deep, Mountain High. I don't know if she has the life experience to put the conviction and knowledge behind the words but I think it would be fun to hear her sing this. And it's a Motown song cause the Four Tops did it first or something.

Lil: Oh my my my. She has to BRING IT this week. Just last week she was saying R&B is her thang and what's more R&B than Motown. She has to pick the perfect song. It's gonna be tough for her. I actually think she'll choke and end up in the bottom three this week because the expectations were so high. No offense to Lil, but I think in terms of female R&B "divas" that this show has had, she's the bottom of the barrel. But she does have one of the best bodies out of them. What would be an impressive song for her to sing? A House is Not a Home. It works so well for people on this show. I think it could work hard for Lil. Very heartfelt but not overly showy. She could do it so well. I think it's a Motown song. Tamyra did a great job with it.

Sarver: I call him Sarver. I don't know why. It suits him better than his actual name. So he says he wants to be a soul singer. What? Okay... delusional. No, no, no, he knows himself better so... go 'head. Well I think he should keep it simple and sing something really soulful. Let's get gritty with it. That's why I'm suggesting Marvin Gaye, Inner City Blues. This is not a pretty song. This is something you have to put your soul behind. Let's see if he's up to the challenge. It's probably too high for him though.

Matt G: A fave of mine. He can kill a Motown song, I just know it. I want him to still play the piano. I love seeing those fingers move. I just hope someone lops that thing off his forehead. Yuck. It's like a third eye. Poor Matt. Anyway, Signed, Sealed, Delivered. It's been done to death on Idol, I know. But Matt G. can bring a new spin to it. It's perfect for his piano, his voice and his riffing. So I say, go for it. Fantasia and Ruben both sang it. It's a winner's song!

Anoop-Dogg!: Not gonna lie. He's my fave. Anoop is the man! And in Motown Week, he's gonna bring it even harder than Country Week. It'll be so great to watch. I don't know what to say. I really don't... he has to choose. What can I advise? I just want my Anoopy to be fun AND great this week. But no jumping around, please, Anoop. You can't do that anymore. But you can move, don't worry. What about Do I Do by Stevie Wonder. Love that song. He loves Stevie. It's fun, it's hip, it's singable. You go boy! Whatever he does, he'll be great.

What do you think?
